The last major battle of the British Civil Wars was fought in and around the city of Worcester on 3 September 1651. With the 375th anniversary of this momentous event now upon us, we thought that the time is right for a reappraisal of the campaign and battle.
In this, the second of two episodes, Emeritus Professor Peter Gaunt of the University of Chester discusses the route taken by the Scots invading army during August 1651, and how they occupied the city of Worcester.
In discussion with publisher Mike Gibbs, he analyses how the battle unfolded and why the Scots and the royalists were so comprehensively defeated. Professor Gaunt also uncovers the consequences and legacies of the battle, both in its immediate aftermath and then in the years that followed.
