Military Historian specialising in Civil War fortifications

David Flintham is a military historian specialising in the fortress warfare of the so-called ‘English’ Civil Wars. He is the co-founder and project director of the King’s Lynn under Siege community archaeology project, and is also part of a research project ‘re-discovering’ London’s ECW fortifications. He is currently developing a register identifying and listing every ECW-period fortification throughout Britain and Ireland. The author of three books, and nearly 70 other papers, in 2022, he organised the ECW fortress symposium, the first-ever such event dedicated to the study of the period’s fortresses and sieges. A long-time member of the Fortress Study Group, he serves on its committee.
